Active Everywhere 6.0 Applications Compatibility

This guide describes application-specific compatibility considerations when using the Active Everywhere Agent with professional design, engineering, and creative software. It highlights supported workflows, expected application behavior, and known limitations that may affect collaboration, file access, or synchronization.

Revit

The integration does not support Revit Central Models.

To ensure reliable operation, each user should work directly from a mounted NEA workspace. Do not use Resilio to collaborate on Revit project files, as this configuration is not supported and may lead to data inconsistencies or synchronization issues.

Supported Workflow - Mount the NEA workspace directly on each user's workstation. - Open and save Revit models directly from the mounted NEA location. - Each user should access the project through NEA rather than through a replicated local copy.

ArcGIS

ArcGIS is compatible with the Active Everywhere Agent. File locking functions as expected during collaborative work.

Known issues

Projects may open slowly while another user is exporting Features. The delay is temporary and occurs only while the export operation is in progress.

BlueBeam

Bluebeam is compatible for file synchronization; however, file locking is not fully supported.

Known issues

After a document has been modified by one user, another user cannot open the file, even in read-only mode. This is caused by Bluebeam temporarily reopening the file in exclusive Read/Write mode after saving, and then switching it back to Read with Shared Read mode. Currently, Active Everywhere lock server does not support this transition, resulting in the file remaining unavailable until the file is closed.

SOLIDWORKS

  • SOLIDWORKS projects, including assemblies, part files, subassemblies, preview images, and exported or packaged folders, synchronize correctly. During opening, SOLIDWORKS may prompt users to rebuild an assembly if it detects that the document requires updating. This is expected application behavior.
  • Pack and Go packages synchronize correctly.
  • A locked reference part remains unavailable while it is open by another user and becomes available again immediately after it is closed, as expected.

Known issues

If one user has a file open and saves changes, another user may temporarily be unable to fetch or pin the updated file until it is closed.

Adobe InDesign, inCopy, Photoshop, Acrobat

  • Packaging is the recommended method for transferring InDesign projects between users. A packaged project creates a self-contained folder containing the .indd document together with linked assets and, optionally, fonts, IDML files, and PDFs.
  • When an InDesign document is opened, the application creates a temporary .idlk lock file automatically. This is expected behavior and requires no action from Active Everywhere administrator or users. Linked assets are loaded automatically from the packaged Links folder.
  • For collaborative editing, the common workflow is InDesign + InCopy Assignments. InCopy users check out content for exclusive editing, save their changes, and check the content back in. Once synchronization completes, InDesign users must manually refresh the document using Update or Update All Assignments. Changes made in InCopy are not reflected in InDesign in real time. Instead, the Assignments panel displays an Out of Date notification when updated content becomes available.

Known issues

A PDF from InDesign cannot be exported while the destination PDF is open by another application or user (for example, Adobe Acrobat or Windows Explorer Preview). InDesign reports that the file is already in use and cannot overwrite it.

Civil 3D

Civil 3D supports collaboration on externally referenced (Xref) drawings. Changes made to referenced drawings are synchronized successfully and can be fetched by other users without requiring the primary drawing to be closed and reopened. However, synchronized Xref changes are not reloaded automatically and must be reloaded manually within Civil 3D.

When using Sheet Set Manager together with the Active Everywhere Agent, ensure that either:

  • All drawings in the Sheet Set use relative paths.
  • All sheet references point to the Agent's mounted drive using valid absolute paths.

Known issues

After one user modifies and saves a drawing, another user may be unable to open the file. This is the same locking limitation observed in Bluebeam and may cause Civil 3D to become unresponsive.

Changes to Data Shortcuts made from different drawings synchronize successfully; however, updating the shortcut in an already open drawing may cause Civil 3D to freeze.
